Paratissima ha collaborato con il progetto triennale “NUR – New Urban Resources“, siglato dalla Città di Torino e la Municipalità di Betlemme e finalizzato a promuovere la diffusione di energia rinnovabile nel territorio di Betlemme attraverso l’installazione di pannelli solari, l’assistenza tecnica relativa all’efficienza energetica, la formazione professionale, la costituzione di start up, iniziative di sensibilizzazione e processi di governance locale.
Abbiamo intervistato Salah, quarto finalista del concorso:
Salah, sei stato premiato! Il tuo lavoro è stato selezionato tra gli altri dal progetto "Let it Light!": un concorso istituito per giovani artisti palestinesi di età compresa tra 18 e 35 anni.
Salah, you have been awarded. Salah, your work was selected among others the project “Let it Light!”: a competition established for young Palestinian artists aged between 18 and 35 years old.
Come hai conosciuto il progetto?
Ho contattato il presidente dell'hotel per poter aderire alla galleria e lui stesso mi ha consigliato di partecipare a questo concorso.
How did you get to know the project?
I have contacted the chairman of the hotel in order to join the gallery so he advised me to participate in this competition and he sent me the ad.
Il tuo lavoro si intitola Feeling the Light. Che cosa esprime la tua opera? Che cosa intendevi comunicare?
Ebbene, il dipinto mostra due tipologie di mani, una luminosa e una scura. La prima rappresenta le mani del sole, il nostro motore eterno che muove le basi del quotidiano, a disposizione di tutti senza dover pagare un centesimo. Nello stesso tempo è l'unica energia senza la quale non possiamo vivere. Inoltre la luce del sole è la fonte che trasmette l'anima al nostro pianeta terra.
Nel dipinto che sottopongo alla competizione c'è l'unione tra i due elementi, gli umani e il sole, che ci mantiene vivi e pieni di energia.
Your work is titled Feeling the Light. What your work is expressing? What was your intention to express?
Well, the painting shows two kind of hands a radiant ones and dark one the first represent the hands of the sun our eternal engine to work in daily basis and which any one can obtain without paying a penny in the same time it is the only type of energy that we can’t live without. Moreover the sun light is the source which transmit the soul to our planet earth. In the painting I submit to the competition is the union between the two elements the sun and humans that keeps us alive and full of energy.
Qual è il ruolo di Ramallah nel tuo lavoro? So che nella tua città ci sono molte gallerie d'arte. Cosa significa per un giovane vivere oggi a Ramallah?
Cosa manca e quali sono gli aspetti unici di Ramallah che non puoi trovare da nessun'altra parte?
Sono nato e cresciuto a Ramallah ed essere un palestinese che vive a Ramallah è una benedizione. Ho sempre avuto il supporto dei miei insegnanti che ancora oggi mi incoraggiano ad iscrivermi alle competizioni scolastiche. Grazie alle mie partecipazioni a numerose gallerie e concorsi sono riuscito a crearmi una fitta rete di collegamenti con artisti e presidenti delle gallerie. Ho anche imparato a comunicare con clienti e visitatori diversi, e ad esprimermi maggiormente tra gli altri. Ciò che per me rende speciale la Palestina, è la sua capacità di arricchire la mia immaginazione migliorando la mia abilità di riuscire a pensare in modo diverso, anche a causa della situazione sociale del paese.
Which is the role of Ramallah in your work? I know that in your city there are many art galleries. What does it mean for a young person to live in Ramallah nowadays?
What is missing and which are Ramallah unique’s aspects you are sure cannot be find anywhere else?
I was born and raised in Ramallah, being a Palestinian living in Ramallah is a blessing. I was supported by teachers and they always encourage me to participate in school competitions. Through my participation in many galleries and competitions I made connections network with other artists and galleries chairmen. I also learned how to communicate with clients and visitors and to express myself more among others. The specialty of Palestine, which is being under occupation, enriched my imagination and taught me how to think differently because of our special situation.
Sei mai stato in Italia? Se no, come immagini che sia?
No, non ci sono mai stato, ma ovviamente ne ho sentito parlare per la sua notorietà nel campo dell’arte, dell'architettura unica e della natura accattivante. Personalmente mi piace molto la musica italiana, in particolare l'opera.
Have you ever been in Italy? If not, how do you imagine it to be?
No, I have never been there,but I heard about it and it is of course known by its art , unique architecture and captivating nature even I enjoy the Italian music especially the opera.
Qual è il tuo desiderio per il futuro? Quale direzione vorresti che prendesse la tua vita?
Credo fermamente che Dio ci conduca a modi che ci fanno crescere spiritualmente e intellettualmente e credo che per l’essere umano si andrà via via migliorando. Per quanto riguarda me invece, desidero che i miei dipinti e le mie opere d'arte tocchino gli spiriti delle persone e affrontino i loro problemi e si sentano con loro. Desidero proseguire nella mia carriera ed approfittare della mia notorietà per continuare a sperimentare nuovi lavori e cercare di esprimere gli altri nel miglior modo possibile attraverso l’arte.
Which is your wish for the future? Which direction you would like your life to take?
I strongly believe that God leads us to ways that make us grow spiritually and intellectually and I believe it will suit us. For my wish, I wish my paintings and art works touch the people’s spirits and tackle their problem and feel with them, also continue in this career and being world widely known to have the chance to experience more and take opportunity to express others through my eyes and art.
